Microkini
A term
coined in the mid-1990s in the online communities to denote swimwear
designs created and implemented in order to provide the smallest
possible coverage.
Typically, a microkini is a very skimpy g-string swimsuit, for men or women, and
the most "modest"
Such |
designs
are somewhat more "provocative" than the smaller thong bikinis one can find in a regular
store, while the most extreme ones are practically nothing else but
mere straps.

Nudism, or naturism, is the practice of going nude or unclothed in
social and usually mixed gender groups, specifically in cultures where
this is not the norm. It sometimes occurs furtively in secluded places in
countries where appearing naked in public is illegal, but enjoys
widespread acceptance in other areas of the world. Those who practice
nudism are called nudists or naturists. Some people believe
that being naked with other people is necessarily always sexual, or that
nudism is morally wrong or pornographic. Naturists generally reject these views. Typical activities are
sunbathing and sports, but some nudists prefer also to be nude
while working etc., whenever the temperature and the social situation
allows it (including when one is alone).

Diveskins
For open water
swimming, snorkeling and diving, diveskins are
used when diving in water temperatures above 25 °C, 77 °F. They are made
from spandex and provide little thermal protection but simply protect the
skin from stings and abrasion. These spandex suits became popular
approximately 20 years ago, and are styled after women's nylon stockings
which Aussie lifeguards wore to protect against jellyfish
stings when on rescues. The down side of spandex is that it can shred when
contacting an abrasive surface, and that it is costly.
The original diveskins were
a neoprene jacket and jeans -- either Levis or Wranglers, and known as a
'Top and Levis'. Jeans have a negative buoyancy of approximately 8 oz
(0.25 kg), and are efficient for diving. They offer some thermal
protection, and good protection against sun, abrasion, and stings.
Additionally, Levis and Wranglers can be purchased slimfit or tapered,
have a leg opening of 34 to 36 cm (13 to 14 inches), and are constructed
of heavyweight denim, which allows them to strink and formfit in water.
Add dive fins, and you have an incredibly efficient set of water gear.
Even regular style jeans can be tucked into dive boots or cuffed to
prevent drag underwater, and they will provide protection against the
elements, at a fraction of the cost of lycra. At some dive locations, just
suiting-up can be a chore. Jeans, a t-shirt or dive top are all that you
might need for a safe, fun dive—and you won't need to change after
diving.

Snorkeling
is the practice of swimming
at the surface of a body of water equipped with a mask and a short tube
called a snorkel. It is a popular recreational activity,
particularly at tropical resort destinations. Since snorkeling requires
calm water (where there are no waves to splash into the snorkel), it is
typically done in protected areas, such as lagoons. Snorkeling requires no
special training, only the ability to swim and to breathe through the
snorkel. However, it can be helpful to know how to expel water from the
snorkel following a dive below the surface, which may allow water to enter
the snorkel. The mask and snorkel are similar to those used in scuba
diving, but since they are not subjected to the pressures of deep water,
they can be more lightweight and comfortable.
The primary attraction of
snorkeling is the opportunity to observe underwater life in a natural
setting. This may include coral reefs and their denizens, such as fish,
octopuses, starfish, sea urchins, and mollusks. Snorkeling in sandy areas
may allow sighting of rays and various flatfish. Other organisms that can
be seen while snorkeling include various forms of seaweed, such as kelp;
jellyfish; and sea turtles.

Beaches have long been a popular attraction for tourism and recreation.
Especially popular are seaside resorts and large white
sand beaches. Of course, residents and tourists alike use beaches as a
place for leisure and sport. The relatively soft formation of sand is
comfortable to sit or lie on, and entering and exiting the water is far
easier across a sand beach than a rocky shore. The waves present at
beaches add to the enjoyment and make the sport of body surfing and
related activities possible. One of the many attractions of a sand beach,
especially for children, is playing with the sand, building sand castles
and other constructs.

Beaches are
deposition landforms, and are the result of wave action by which waves or
currents move sand or other loose sediments of which the beach is made as
these particles are held in suspension. Alternatively, sand may be moved
by saltation (a bouncing movement of large particles). Beach materials
come from erosion of rocks offshore, as well as from headland erosion and
slumping producing deposits of scree. A coral reef offshore is a
significant source of sand particles.
The shape of a beach
depends on whether the waves are constructive or destructive, and whether
the material is sand or shingle. Constructive waves move material up the
beach while destructive waves move the material down the beach. On sandy
beaches, the backwash of the waves removes material forming a gently
sloping beach. On shingle beaches the swash is dissipated because the
large particle size allows percolation, so the backwash is not very
powerful, and the beach remains steep.
Cusps and horns form where
incoming waves divide, depositing sand as horns and scouring out sand to
form cusps. This forms the uneven edge of a sandy beach.
