The tankini is a swimsuit
combining a tank top and a bikini bottom.
The
lower part of the bikini was further reduced in
size in the 1980s to the Brazilian thong, where the back of the suit
is so thin that it disappears into the buttocks. Recently bikinis have
been getting smaller. This started with the top piece, but after shrinking
the top so much that it barely covers the nipples, swimsuit manufacturers
have moved on to reducing the size of the bottom piece. One can see the
trend toward reduction in the following styles: slingshot, mini, teardrop,
minimini, the barely-clitoris-covering
micro, and, what
could be called a double g-string, the minimicro.

Bikini, the history :
A bikini is a
type of women's bathing suit, characterized by two separate parts, one
covering the breasts, the other the groin and buttocks, leaving an
uncovered area between the two garments.
Two-piece garments worn by
women for athletic purposes have been observed on Greek urns and
paintings, dated as early as 1400 BC.
The modern bikini was
invented by engineer Louis Reard in Paris in 1946 (introduced on July 5),
and named after Bikini
Atoll, the site of nuclear weapon tests in the Marshall Islands,
on the reasoning that the burst of excitement it would cause would be like
the atomic bomb.

Swimsuits
Swimsuits are
generally designed to cover at least the genitalia. In some cultures
women's swimsuits do not cover the breasts, though in most western
countries this is not the norm; for pre-pubescent girls they may or may
not cover the chest. Swimming without a bathing suit is a form of nudism;
special beaches may be reserved for nude sunbathing and swimming. Swimming
in the nude is also known by the slang term
skinny-dipping.
Men's swimsuit
styles tend to be shorts, trunks, boardshorts, jammers, speedo-style
briefs, or cut-off jeans.
Women's
swimsuits are generally either one-piece swimsuits or bikinis. Also there
is the monokini, in case the coverage of the breasts is neither required
nor desired. However, special swimsuits for competitive swimming, designed
to reduce skin drag, can resemble unitards.
For some kinds
of swimming and diving, special bodysuits called diveskins are worn. They
are made from spandex and provide little thermal protection but simply
protect the skin from stings and abrasion. Most competitive swimmers also
wear special swimsuits including partial and full bodysuits, racerback
styles, jammers, and racing briefs to assist their glide through the water
and gain speed advantages.
Swimsuits are also worn for
the purpose of body display in beauty pageants. The magazine Sports
Illustrated has an annual "swimsuit issue" that features models and sports
personalities in swimsuits.
Swimsuits are also worn on
beaches and around swimming pools (even if no swimming is involved). Many
authorities believe that children of both sexes should also wear T-shirts
outdoors on sunny days to protect from sunburn.

A wall calendar is a calendar intended for placement on a wall. Wall
calendars can be visually interesting, feature pin-up girls, companies and
products. Years ago, filling stations
often gave wall calendars away for free to customers. Wall calendars can
be an advertisement in the home or a reminder of holidays, important
events, and company events.
Today, wall calendars today
are often sold in bookstores and can be obtained from
businesses.

A sling bikini
is a one-piece woman's swimsuit which provides
as little coverage, or as much exposure, as a bikini. Usually, it is worn
like a bikini bottom with the side straps, instead of going around the
hips or waist, extending upwards to cover the breasts and go over the
shoulders, leaving the entire sides of the torso uncovered. The straps
then reach down the back to become a thong.
Sling bikinis are sometimes
referred to as monokinis, though this usually refers to a a garment which
leaves the breasts uncovered.

A thong,
tanga
or g-string
is a narrow piece of cloth or leather that passes between the legs and is
attached to a band around the hips, worn as a bikini bottom or as
underwear. It is sometimes disparagingly called butt floss,
referring to its tendency to slide between the buttocks like dental floss
between the teeth.
Although it was
worn for decades by exotic dancers, the thong first gained mainstream
popularity in South America, particularly in Brazil in the 1970s. In
Brazil it was originally a style of swimsuit whose rear area was so thin —
often just a string — that it would disappear between the wearer's
buttocks.
Previously, this
style of clothing had been called a "g-string", a name that was in use at
least as far back as the late 1800s. The origin of the word is uncertain:
it may have been an analogy to the thickest string on a violin; perhaps it
was a euphemistic abbreviation of girdle-string or
groin-string; or it may have been a Native American word that
simply sounded like g-string. G-strings can be seen being worn in
some old photographs.
